Shared Health to provide EHR, e-prescribing for Mississippi Medicaid
The Mississippi Division of Medicaid Services has awarded a contract to Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Shared Health to implement and operate an EHR system and e-prescribing solution for the state’s 600,000 Medicaid beneficiaries.
Under the four-year contract, Shared Health, a public/private health information exchange (HIE), will provide Mississippi with a Web-based EHR, an e-prescribing system, access to hospital discharge information and clinical outreach services to Medicaid physicians in the state.
In announcing the awarding of the Mississippi contract, Jana Skewes, CEO of Shared Health, said that a statewide EHR system will allow clinicians to make more informed decisions at the point of care through immediate access to relevant information such as lab results, medications, immunizations and allergies, as well as avoiding the duplication of services.
Skewes also pointed out that a move towards an EHR system in Mississippi provides the Division of Medicaid Services with security and disaster recovery.
