EU gives nod to Abbott's Trek dilatation catheter

Abbott Vascular has received a CE Mark of approval for the marketing of its Trek coronary dilatation catheter to treat coronary artery disease (CAD).

According to the Abbott Park, Ill.-based company, the Trek catheter helps to navigate lesions, and is available in 77 sizes ranging in diameter from 1.2 mm to 5 mm and lengths from 6 mm to 30 mm.

The Trek system, used before stent placement, includes two balloon catheters, the Trek and the Mini-Trek for access to smaller lesions. The Trek system received EU approval earlier this year, the company said.
