Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a crucial component of healthcare to help augment physicians and make them more efficient. In medical imaging, it is helping radiologists more efficiently manage PACS worklists, enable structured reporting, auto detect injuries and diseases, and to pull in relevant prior exams and patient data. In cardiology, AI is helping automate tasks and measurements on imaging and in reporting systems, guides novice echo users to improve imaging and accuracy, and can risk stratify patients. AI includes deep learning algorithms, machine learning, computer-aided detection (CAD) systems, and convolutional neural networks.

Study: Open source software holds key to radically changing health IT

Open source software has the potential to dramatically change and improve the way health IT is developed and pave the way to easier interoperability, benefiting patients and caregivers, according to a report recently released by the California Health Care Foundation.

HIMSS06: Clinical Information Systems News

Although clinical information systems aren’t the main focus of HIMSS, the systems did manage to grab some of the spotlight. PACS – and a more intelligent flavor that adds patient information management to image management – for the ‘ologies’ was the buzz among vendors and presenters (see/link PACS More Than Just One Use). New and upcoming offerings will transcend radiology and even cardiology.
