Long MRI wait times frustrate patients, officials in British Columbia
Despite an infusion of tens of millions of governmental dollars intended to speed access to MRI exams, patients in British Columbia still endure the longest wait times—a median of 24 weeks—in all of Canada.
The Vancouver Sun reports on the finding, gleaned from a survey of 2,400 physicians across the country, noting that 24 weeks is double the median MRI wait time in many other provinces and four times longer than in Ontario.
“Patients waiting for CT scans didn’t fare that much better, waiting a median of five weeks in B.C., a figure that has not budged in three years,” the newspaper reports.
