Neurognostics nets East and West Coast installs

Neurognostics, a Milwaukee-based medical imaging company, will install its functional MRI (fMRI) system at Hoag Hospital in Pasadena, Calif., and the North Shore-LIJ Health System in Great Neck, N.Y. The facilities will utilize Neurognostics' fMRI system in clinical and research settings.

Michael Schulder, MD, director of the Harvey Cushing Brain Tumor Institute and vice chairman of Neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital, said the system will standardize their ability to identify areas of functional activity prior to performing surgical resections.

Michael Brant-Zawadzki, MD, medical director of Radiology at Hoag Memorial Hospital, said that by utilizing Neurognostics' library of paradigms, and forming a collaborative relationship to develop disorder-specific tasks (paradigms) for their research use, the hospital plans to take full advantage of the advanced fMRI capabilities, by replacing WADA testing in their patients' work-up for temporal lobe resection, and better guide brain tumor resection.

Both Hoag Memorial Hospital and the 15-hospital North Shore-LIJ Health System have dedicated neuroscience institutes that offer prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment for brain tumors, epilepsy, stroke, and neurodegenerative disorders.
