Boston Medical Center to install GE's electronic pharmacy system

GE Healthcare recently inked a five-year, $1.2 million agreement with Boston Medical Center (BMC). The 547-bed academic medical center ranks as the largest safety net hospital in New England. As part of the agreement, GE will install Centricity Pharmacy, a medication management and clinical decision support tool.

The Centricity system is designed for use by pharmacy managers, pharmacists and nurses to help them distribute prescribed medications and monitor the use of drugs with their organizations. This system should help prevent adverse medication interactions. The Centricity Pharmacy software will also be interfaced to BMC's Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) System and Medication Administration Record (MAR) to create a closed-loop medication management process, GE Healthcare said.
