Cogon deploys HIE in South Florida

Cogon Systems has deployed the South Florida Health Information Initiative (SFHII), a health information exchange (HIE) for South Florida.

Upon completing a short training session, authorized physicians and staff of participating providers will be able to log onto the system and search for patient data from multiple healthcare organizations, said Pensacola, Fla.-based Cogon.

The company said SFHII provides the framework for interoperability and can easily be extended to include additional providers, payers and ancillary services.

Cogon said it has started phase III of the implementation by conducting a data integration assessment to determine how local hospitals and providers would participate in the HIE. As part of the project, Cogon will train and provide technical assistance for the HIE participants.

Phase III will be completed in September of 2008, according to Cogon.
