GE sheds Centricity Advance EMR system from its portfolio

GE Healthcare has decided to stop selling Centricity Advance, a web-based EMR, practice management (PM) and patient portal system, which was primarily marketed to office-based physicians.
 
The company said that, after analyzing its software offerings, it found that Centricity Advance and Centricity Practice Solution addressed many of the same customer needs for small and medium size practices, and it is consolidating its EMR systems to focus solely on its flagship EMR and PM system, Centricity Practice Solution.

One feature of Centricity Advance was the Patient Self-Service Portal, which connects patients to their care, and was touted as a “cost-effective” web-based service on the company’s website.

Centricity Advance evolved from GE’s acquisition of MedPlexus in March 2010, which GE said it purchased for its ambulatory EMR practice and revenue cycle management software.
