Dec. 5 – Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has sold a Cyclone 30 to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the production of imaging radioisotopes.

According to the Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium-based company, the cyclotron, fitted with three external beam lines, will be used to produce SPECT radioisotopes such as Thallium-201 and Iodine-123 and PET radioisotopes such as Fluoride-18. Production will be operational in 2009, said IBA, to supply the Saudi Arabia and neighboring Middle East countries with the radioisotopes.

In addition to equipment supply, IBA will also provide complete site engineering support for the integration of other production equipment, such as Technetium-99 generator production line, and detailed design of production laboratories according to the latest good manufacturing practices standards.
