Siemens scores FFDM order from U.K. hospital

Worcestershire Royal Hospital, part of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in the United Kingdom, has ordered a full-field direct digital mammography (FFDM) system from Siemens Healthcare.

The order is one of the first in England for a Mammomat Inspiration that includes a unique MoodLight feature. Changing and calming colors are emitted into the patient exam area to help ease patient anxiety during mammograms, according to Siemens.

The Mammomat Inspiration offers 27 seconds between exposure times and 18 seconds between exposure and display of high-resolution digital images, allowing more than 15 patients per hour to be examined to significantly increase patient throughput.

Furthermore, a special x-ray tube with a tungsten anode and new AEC algorithms, which individually compute the dose according to the size of the breast and the type of tissue, ensure the lowest possible dose, Siemens said.
