The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) is launching a certificate course focused on training clinicians to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) during emergency scenarios that require imaging.

Earning the RSNA Emergency Imaging AI Certificate means that radiology professionals have honed their skills in emergency clinical settings and know how to deploy AI to speed up imaging scans and report reading, ultimately improving outcomes for patients.

In its announcement, RSNA said the course will focus on managing cases in environments that require immediate triage as well as patient cases considered emergent or urgent.

“AI has already entered the radiology vernacular and will play a significant role in the evolution of diagnostic radiology,” course director Nina Kottler, MD, vice president of clinical operations at Radiology Partners said in the statement. “Individuals who grasp the capabilities and limitations of AI have the power to influence its application. Understanding the mechanics of AI models and leveraging this knowledge to inform users is key to harnessing AI’s full potential. This course is designed to equip participants with the necessary resources to effectively engage in conversations about, evaluate, critique, and deploy AI models in emergency radiology.”
