Proprietary mobile ultrasound system receives $2.1M in early funding

Remote ultrasound platform Sonus Microsystems has raised $2.1 million in pre-seed funding, taking its total amount raised to nearly $3 million. 

In a statement, the company said it intends to use the money to build a team to improve product development and production, and identify new applications for its ultrasound technology.

The Sonus ultrasound platform boasts the ability to offer diagnostic scans from anywhere, without the need for a patient to be at a clinic or hospital. The portable nature of the system has uses ranging from emergency scenarios to improving rural access.

The underlying technology is proprietary, using MEMS sensorsmicroscopic devices incorporating both electronic and mechanical partsto support scans. Manufacturing is intensive, involving the crafting of thousands of tiny micro-drums to send and receive sonogram images.

This funding round was led by LDV Capital but includes investments from ultrasound and AI experts, as well as angel investors.
