MITA joins AdvaMed, MDMA with letter to Congress urging solution to device tax
The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) joined the Advanced Medical Technical Association (AdvaMed) and the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) in penning a combined letter to Congress urging a long-term solution to the medical device tax with the tax set to kick in at the end of the month.
The the most current letter is noteworthy for the combined efforts of the three associations in fighting for a repeal of the tax.
“During the two-year suspension of the medical device tax, manufacturers increased investments in R&D, created high-paying U.S. jobs and provided more opportunities to help address the needs of patients,” said Joe Robinson, chairman of the MITA board of directors and senior vice president of health systems solutions at Philips Healthcare, in the release. “Repealing the tax now, before the next payment deadline, will ensure that our companies are able to continue investing in innovative technologies to improve patient care.”
The 2.3 percent tax was initially imposed in 2013 as part of the taxes and fees associated with the Affordable Care Act which helped expand health insurance under the law.
