PCORI earmarks more than $40 million for patient-centered research projects

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has announced $44.4 million in funding for 21 new clinical effectiveness research studies centered around patient care, according to a press release.

The money will fund studies exploring postpartum depression, cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as other health conditions with substantial negative impacts on patients, caregivers and the healthcare system as a whole.

“We’re pleased to announce this new round of studies designed to produce evidence that will help patients and those who care for them make better-informed health and healthcare decisions,” said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, in the release. “We believe these studies will address significant gaps in our knowledge and have the potential to change practice and improve patients’ outcomes.”

The funding is the latest round in a total of $1.3 billion put toward 504 patient-centered research projects by PCORI since 2012.
