FDA clears 1st AI radiation reduction technology for x-rays

The FDA announced it has cleared Omega Medical Imaging’s FluoroShield, making it the first artificial intelligence-enabled radiation reduction platform to gain such status.

FlouroShield is a region of interest radiation exposure reduction solution for interventional x-ray imaging, according to Omega. Powered by AI, an ultrafast collimator and advanced image processing, the solution has reduced radiation by as much as 84%.

The technology limits radiation doses to patients and nearby staff and helps to achieve ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) goals for radiation exposure.

It is currently only available on Omega’s Flat Panel detector CS- series products.
