HL7 clinical documents to include CCR patient data
In a victory for interoperability, Health Level Seven last week announced plans to create an implementation guide for expressing Continuity of Care Record (CCR) patient data -including a summary of a patient's most recent and vital medical information - within the architecture of an HL7 Clinical Document for standards-based electronic exchange of information.
The hope is that this move will ease the shift towards interoperability for the healthcare industry in this country. HL7 has invited all industry stakeholders to take part in the initiative which will focus around the organization's Structured Documents Technical Committee. As a result, doctors will have improved access to updated information about a patient which is desperately needed for the best treatment.
ASTM International developed CCR in conjunction with the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
