RSNA and SIIM announce return of imaging informatics course
The Radiological Society of North America has partnered with the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine to once again offer the National Imaging Informatics Course-Radiology (NIIC-RAD).
In a statement released Wednesday, RSNA announced the return of the course, which provides education and training modules developed by seasoned experts from across the world.
“I'm excited about the upcoming NIIC-RAD course,” said Nabile M. Safdar, MD, who helped develop the offering alongside Tessa S. Cook, MD, PhD, and Katherine Andriole, PhD. “I get to hear the brightest minds in our field explain where the practice of radiology is going and how it is changing. NIIC-RAD provides a road map of what my practice needs to consider for the future, conferring it a strategic advantage.”
NIIC-RAD will cover imaging informatics fundamentals, such as how to optimize clinical workflows, data science, artificial intelligence and 3D printing, and will include assessments to be completed before and after the course. It will be conducted online through live lectures and group discussions but will also have content available on demand.
Although the course is geared toward fourth-year radiology residents, Safdar suggests that the information provided in the training could benefit anyone looking to sharpen their knowledge and stay up to date in the field of informatics
“If you want to be equipped with the inside track on what’s happening with clinical decision support, artificial intelligence, standards, regulatory frameworks and entrepreneurship, this is the course for you,” Safdar said.
The pre-course work starts on Feb. 21. Upon completion, participants will be awarded a certificate and digital badge, and will qualify for up to 20 hours of SIIM IIP credits for ABII certification and recertification.
The NIIC-RAD courses are set to take place Sept. 19–23, 2022, and March 6–10, 2023. Registration is available for individuals, groups and academic programs.
