NetApp leads NAS and unified storage market
Network Appliances Inc. (NetApp) announced that it has improved its position as leading service provider in the network attached storage (NAS) and unified storage market, according to data from Gartner Inc.
According to Gartner Inc.'s report for the market, the overall unified storage market grew 20.3 percent in 2004. By posting annual revenue of 25.4 percent, NetApp was able to outgrow the market. Gartner also reports that the company increased its market share from 50 percent in 2003 to 52 percent in 2004.
NetApp produced its best results with top-tier vendors in the external controller-based disc storage market in 2004, with a revenue increase of 25.6 percent, according to Gartner. NetApp's external controller-based disk storage hardware revenue increased from $586.9 million in 2003 to $737.1 million in 2004.
In general, the external controller-based disk storage market increased by 5.1 percent in 2004.
NetApp contributes its success to providing services that simplify storage management over direct-attached and conventional SAN-attached storage.
