Varian Medical Systems brings OpTx into the fold

Varian Medical Systems Inc. on Monday completed the acquisition of OpTx Corp., the Denver-based supplier of software for medical oncology practices in cancer clinics.

Varian paid approximately $18 million in cash for OpTx's assets, including its OpTxTools software, which Varian will continue to develop, sell, install and service worldwide as a stand-alone product for medical oncology practices and as part of its VARiS software for coordination with radiation oncology.

OpTx becomes part of Varian's Oncology Systems business segment.

Varian estimates that OpTx will add approximately $9 million in annualized revenues to the company coffers and be nearly neutral to earnings for Varian in FY04, which ends Sept. 30.
