Industry round-up: Franklin & Seidelmann, InSite One, Mercury Computer, NovaRad, Siemens, Wyeth
Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology (F&S) added five new imaging centers and one orthopedic practice to its national client base. F&S will also provide additional services to existing clients, who contract with F&S to provide subspecialty radiology interpretations as its sole provider, or as a complement to its radiology staff. The subspecialty teleradiology service is a cost-effective strategy to access a network of subspecialty radiologists on a full-time or as-needed basis.
InSite One launched special philanthropic program with their mammography clients in support of the American Breast Cancer Foundation’s Key to Life Breast Cancer Screening Assistance Program and breast cancer research.
For every mammogram archived with InSite One from facilities performing mammography, InSite One will contribute to the American Breast Cancer Foundation. The ultimate goal of this program, in addition to raising funds, is to increase awareness for the early detection of breast cancer. Each client and the patients they serve will be a contributor to this Foundation, the company said.
In addition, InSite One will place a plaque at each facility expressing the program along with the American Breast Cancer Foundation’s program telephone number.
“This program demonstrates InSite One’s commitment to the healthcare community in conjunction with providing our core services,” commented Jim Champagne, president and CEO. “Contributing to this very worthy cause in partnership with our mammography clients brings this commitment full circle.”
Established in 1997, The American Breast Cancer Foundation provides breast cancer screening assistance to uninsured and underinsured women and men of all ages. The foundation supplies Post Breast Surgery Care Kits to aid patients with home wound care immediately after surgery. In addition to these community based programs, The Foundation supports breast cancer research in the areas of Ductal Lavage, DNA Gene Array Mapping and a Breast Cancer Vaccine to develop a treatment that will assist patients with metastatic breast cancer.
Mercury Computer Systems will showcase its entire Visage product family next week at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, Austria. Mercury’s 3D to the Core platform transforms the medical imaging workflow by enhancing 3D modalities and image quality, and demonstrating performance breakthroughs that are necessary to manage an increasing amount of data. Mercury’s advanced Visage CS Thin Client/Server solution now comprises integrated 3D functionalities including a Cardiac Analysis Option. The new release of Visage PACS, Mercury’s web-based, scalable, enterprise-grade image management system, will include features that enable flexible arrangement of multiple viewers, new options for side-by-side comparison, as well as hanging protocols.
NovaRad has acquired contracts with two additional international hospitals in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. The hospitals include the 430-bed HIMA-San Pablo Bayamon in Puerto Rico, and the 72-bed Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas. NovaPACS is a PACS that offers fast image retrieval, a full-feature viewer with intuitive interface, and a 7-year on-site archive with off site emergency back up.
The Molecular Imaging division of Siemens Medical Solutions will use their new research imaging agent in Wyeth Pharmaceuticals’ clinical studies of Alzheimer's disease. The new Alzheimer's imaging agent - which recently received FDA clearance to begin clinical trials - searches for amyloid plaques and neuronal tangles in the brain than can ultimately cause cell death. This could enable doctors to identify the areas of the brain affected, and differentiate it from other neurological diseases.
