Agfa HealthCare announced that the TalkStation radiology reporting system will be installed at more than 45 hospitals run by Veterans Affairs (VA). This will be the largest TalkStation installation in the United States and will include the most recent version, TalkStation 3.1, which has been validated to work with the VistA information system in use at every VA hospital. Also, systems integrator VirtuRad has inked an agreement with Agfa to sell the company’s PACS IMPAX 6.0 into the orthopaedic imaging market in the United States. With the agreement, VirtuRad expands its commitment to sell Agfa's complete line of orthopaedic imaging solutions, which includes CR, orthopaedic pre-surgical planning tools, and IMPAX PACS systems.
CDW Healthcare has partnered with Clearwater Cardiovascular and Interventional Consultants, Clearwater, Fla.; Summit Medical Group, Berkeley Heights, N.J.; and Texas Gulf Coast Medical Group, Houston, Texas, to provide technology infrastructure solutions that support the organizations’ digital healthcare initiatives designed to improve delivery of care.
The United Kingdom’s National Health Service awarded Computer Sciences Corp. a nine-year contract to provide IT services. The company will take over a $3.73 billion project from Accenture following delays and going over budget. The contract is aimed at upgrading the NHS computer system via creation of a patient record system and is part of an overall plan to improve healthcare services for patients throughout northeastern and eastern England.
GE Healthcare installed the 10,000 Signa magnetic resonance (MR) superconductive magnet at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System’s Diagnostic Imaging Center, a 15,700-square-foot outpatient radiology program serving Long Island, Queens, and Staten Island, N.Y., based at the Health System’s Center for Advanced Medicine, an ambulatory care complex.
Three Virginia hospitals selected NovaPACS by NovaRad. The hospitals include 199-bed Clinch Valley Hospital in Richlands; 203-bed Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin; and 104-bed Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville.

Rogan-Delft received an order to install and maintain a PACS system for Shantou University Hospital. Shantou Hospital is, with 800 beds, the largest university hospital in East Guangdong Region, South China, where it serves an area with a population of around 5 million.
SG&A Consulting completed contract negotiations with Amerinet, a healthcare group purchasing organization, to supply PACS and healthcare informatics pre-deployment and implementation support to its members.
Suros Surgical Systems, owned by Hologic, gained near citywide adoption of its minimally invasive breast biopsy system at nearly all hospitals and breast centers in Indianapolis, Ind. The Suros ATEC Breast Biopsy and Excision System — which performs tests in less than a minute — is a breast biopsy guided by x-ray or mammography and is commonly used for MRI-guided breast biopsy. Nearly 200,000 breast biopsies have been successfully performed using the ATEC since the company introduced the device in March 2002.
