Ultrasound mobile app developer launches colorful training tool

Clarius Mobile Health, known for its handheld ultrasound scanners, has released an artificial intelligence-powered training tool to help sonographers produce better images. 

The T-Mode AI aid generates a split screen image on a smart device during an ultrasound exam, with one side displaying a color to highlight the human anatomy, guiding operators as they interpret what they’re scanning. The other side of the split screen contains the standard feed of the ultrasound procedure for immediate comparison.  

“T-Mode is the beginning of a new era of ultrasound learning where AI acts as our ‘teacher’ or ‘guide,'” Stefania Roberts, MD, a phlebologist and plastic surgeon who uses the tool in her Melbourne, Australia, practice said in a statement. “The learning curve to master ultrasound is steep, but with T-Mode, one can examine the temple region, lips, and cheek whereby fat, muscle, SMAS and bone are shown in different colors and then labeled so the user can confirm what the different layers in the face look like.”

The company stated that T-Mode is intended for educational and training purposes, but it also can be utilized for care planning. Currently, it has only been adopted in aesthetic and plastic surgery practices

Use of the tool requires the Clarius ultrasound mobile app with a paid subscription.
