Agfa HealthCare announced that the Managing Board of the University Clinic of Schleswig-Holstein awarded it a contract for cross-campus implementation of its ORBIS Hospital Information System, with an integrated RIS and IMPAX PACS.
The changeover to ORBIS and IMPAX will allow the University Clinic of Schleswig-Holstein to improve its processes in patient care (physicians, nursing staff), patient administration (admissions, billing), and research and teaching. Agfa HealthCare will introduce a unified patient administration and billing solution in the early stages, as well as the first stage of the Hospital Workplace System and the Radiology Information System with PACS. Altogether, Agfa HealthCare has undertaken more than 250 IMPAX and over 210 ORBIS RIS installations in the German-speaking countries in Europe.
Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas County, Texas, is using a secure, high-performance voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solution from Avaya and Juniper Networks to improve the continuity of communications in the event of a disaster and to deliver better service to patients. In addition to the main hospital facility, Parkland has 14 remote clinics and administrative offices located throughout Dallas County. Before upgrading to a new high-performance network, each remote site had its own stand-alone communication system.
Parkland’s voice network is based on Avaya Communication Manager IP telephony software. The network includes a combination of Avaya G700 Media Gateways for the smaller clinics, with two Avaya S8720 Media Servers for the main hospital site. The healthcare system’s voice network relies on Juniper Networks J-series routers as a critical component of its new IP telephony solution and uses the modular JUNOS operating system to manage VoIP traffic and help ensure it is operating at peak efficiency, around the clock. To monitor the end-to-end performance of applications traveling over the voice network, Parkland plans to use the Avaya Converged Network Analyzer (CAN). Avaya and Juniper said its new branch networking system designed for healthcare organizations and others with multiple remote sites is now available.
Portland, Ore.-based EPIC Imaging, a diagnostic imaging facility, has purchased a Fonar Corporation FONAR Upright, multi-position MRI. This is the first sale of the system in Oregon.
Rogan-Delft has been awarded an order to supply, implement and maintain a PACS to the branch of the First People’s Hospital in Shanghai. The hospital has been using Rogan-Delft PACS since 1999 to conduct 400 studies per day, 900,000 studies in total and over 15 million images.
Streamline Health Solutions said that Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Pennsylvania is in the process of expanding its document workflow systems across their enterprise to include the implementation of the company’s Health Information Management Suite. Through the system, the facility expects improvements in operational efficiencies that will heighten the quality of patient care and safety, as well as provide easier access to patient information throughout the enterprise. The TriZetto Group announced that Premera Blue Cross has gone live on TriZetto’s Clinical CareAdvance. It is one of two modules that comprise TriZetto’s total CareAdvance Enterprise system, which automates all aspects of care management, enabling health plans to guide consumers on making better health decisions that can lower medical costs and improve health outcomes. Clinical CareAdvance integrates with TriZetto’s Facets administrative system. By automating manual processes and streamlining workflows, it is helping Premera prioritize and route case management work according to rules established by the plan’s clinical staff. Clinical CareAdvance also allows health plans to exchange information with multiple internal and external systems, such as Premera’s predictive modeling software, resulting in a cohesive technology environment.
