Asteral nets $275M, long-term contract for British health system

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has signed Asteral for a $274.9 million (£140 million), 18.9-year managed equipment service (MES) contract.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Reading, England-based Asteral said it will install, commission, maintain and manage the latest equipment across the Trust’s multiple sites for the duration of the contract. It will also provide project management, training and related support services at each site. The contract includes a guarantee ensuring improved availability of equipment, including improved speed and accuracy of digital equipment, according to the company.

Asteral said the MES also provides a guaranteed rolling replacement program. Equipment in the MES includes ultrasound, MRI and CT scanners, digital X-ray rooms, interventional fluoroscopy, cardiac catheter labs, static and mobile mammography services and three robotic pharmacies, the company said.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust includes Glenfield Hospital, Leicester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary, employing more than 12,000 staff and providing services for nearly two million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in England.
