3M releases RFID-tracked patient record
3M has launched a new Patient Record Tracking Solution, which uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) to allow hospital staff to locate patient records.
An RFID tag, linked to a 3M database, is placed on each patient record and a network of tracking pads is created around the hospital, according to the Maplewood, Minn.-based company. Each pad is connected to a computer enabling hospital staff to quickly locate a given record from a workstation.
