New rural Texas RHIO launched, powered by Prognosis

Four community hospitals in Texas have formed a rural regional health information organization (RHIO), powered by a Web-based EMR from Prognosis Health Information Systems to provide clinicians with a view of patient data.

Using cloud computing technology, Anson General Hospital, Stamford Memorial Hospital, Stonewall Memorial Hospital and Throckmorton County Memorial Hospital, all located within 25 miles of one another, will access Prognosis' ChartAccess EMR by using a standard operating system and a Web browser, Houston-based Prognosis said.

According to company, ChartAccess provides features that will help the RHIO's facilities implement the technology, including screens that mimic e-mail interfaces and an iPhone application that allows clinicians to view and process orders from their cell phones.

In addition, Prognosis provides change management support that will help the RHIO meet the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's requirements, Prognosis stated.

The company will begin work with the RHIO to meet the October deadline for deployment of computerized physician order entry (CPOE), incorporation of lab results in the records system as structured data, and implementation of five clinical decision support rules, the company stated.
