HHS awards $267M for regional HIT extension centers

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $267 million in funding for 28 regional HIT assistance centers that will complete a nationwide network of 60 centers.

These Regional Extension Centers are non-profit organizations that will provide technical assistance to doctors and healthcare organizations that are implementation EMR systems.

The awardees include:

  • Local Initiative Health Authority for Los Angeles County in Los Angeles - $15.63 million
  • eHealthConnecticut in Rocky Hill, Conn. - $5.75 million
  • National Indian Health Board in Washington, D.C. - $5.75 million
  • Quality Insights of Delaware in Wilmington, Del. - $5.86 million
  • University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla. - $7.67 million
  • Community Health Centers Alliance in St. Petersburg, Fla. - $10.98 million
  • University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. - $5.88 million
