GE widens lead in ultrasound market

GE Healthcare increased its lead over Siemens and Phillips in the ultrasound market last year while also expanding its control in the emerging ultrasound system segment to 27 percent, according to a report published by the Millennium Research Group (MRG).

Medical technology market research company MRG said that GE had increased its share of the emerging ultrasound market from 10 to 27 percent between 2007 and 2009.

GE has focused its attention in the emerging market by making more compact point-of-care ultrasound products that physicians can apply to administer anesthesia and gain vascular access, MRG said. Its Venue 40 series of point-of-care ultrasound is part of a line of new products GE is set to offer through 2014.
