Clinical trial tests mammo + 3D ultrasound in breast cancer detection
A clinical trial of U-Systems' somo•v Automated Breast Ultrasound has been initiated to determine whether 3D ultrasound can improve breast cancer detection in women with dense breasts when used in combination with mammography screening.
The European Asymptomatic Screening Study (EASY) at Capio Saint Göran Hospital, in Stockholm intends to recruit 8,000 asymptomatic women with dense breast tissue, according to Sunnyvale, Calif.-based U-Systems. The company stated its aim to incorporate its 3D ultrasound imaging technology into the more common European technique of double-reading of mammography in order to improve breast cancer detection.
