First Medicare meaningful use payments arrive
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced last week that Medicare incentive checks for meaningful use were on the way; now those payments have begun to arrive.
Early recipients include Jennifer Brull, MD, FAAFP, of Plainville, Kan., a family medicine physician in rural private practice. Brull, who also serves as president of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians, has received a full incentive payment, according to e-MDs, an Austin, Texas-based EHR provider.
In addition, Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC), a 471-bed acute care hospital in Pine Bluff, Ark., was one of the first hospitals in the nation to be notified it will receive incentive funding for successfully demonstrating meaningful use of its EHR.
JRMC stated it expects to receive approximately $3 million in Stage 1 incentives, and estimated that it could be eligible for more than $8 million by achieving all three stages of meaningful use.
