vRad merges with Illinois practice

Virtual Radiologic (vRad) and Lakeland Radiologists have formed a strategic alliance, merging Lakeland Radiologists with an affiliated medical practice of vRad.

The practice will be called Lakeland Radiology Alliance, and will offer Lakeland facilities access to subspecialists, vRad technology, clinical data benchmarking and the shared expertise of more than 325 radiologists across the U.S., according to Minneapolis-based vRad.

Based in central Illinois, Lakeland is a multi-site practice that has operated for over 30 years and is currently comprised of 15 radiologists serving four regional hospitals and affiliated and freestanding clinics across 500 square miles. Aldo Ruffolo, MD, Lakeland’s medical director, indicated that the practice used three different PACS and needed a unified worklist with access to subspecialty coverage.

The provider approached vRad for its Enterprise Connect technology, the platform vRad uses to manage and read more than seven million studies annually from 2,700 facilities and joined the national practice as an alliance partner.
