Swedish Covenant Hospital chooses Barco display systems to become first in downtown Chicago to offer 3D mammography
Swedish Covenant clinicians travelled the country to view numerous mammography platforms when seeking to upgrade their breast imaging display systems, and decided to invest in tomosynthesis technology when they discovered Barco. The 3D imaging capabilities of the Barco Mammo Tomosynthesis display enhance the clarity of breast details in high-risk women with a single exam, as well as providing advanced imaging for diagnostic purposes.
Enhanced accuracy leads to improved efficiency
“The Barco Mammo Tomosynthesis display system is producing fantastic results, revealing much more detail in breast images to enable our radiologists to read more quickly and diagnose with greater certainty,” comments Dorothy Lam, Radiologist for Swedish Covenant Hospital. “The calcifications appear very sharp on the Barco monitors. Sometimes, we will proceed to biopsy from a screening mammogram because the images are suspicious enough in this initial exam. This saves a whole step – eliminating the need for a diagnostic exam – conserving both time and resources so we can serve more patients on a daily basis.”
Sharper images, precise detail and no motion blur
The first display system available for breast tomosynthesis, the Barco Mammo Tomosynthesis 5MP display system features twice the brightness and double the lifetime of conventional display systems. Radiologists experience clearer visibility of differences in tissue density and increased conspicuity of the smallest, subtlest details. The Mammo Tomosynthesis display system enables radiologists to quickly cine through hundreds of images – without motion blur – to precisely view an anomaly for closer inspection.
Improving workflow in mammography departments around the world
“We are honored that Swedish Covenant Hospital chose Barco to expand its mammography capabilities into 3D imaging,” comments Mike Sklar, Vice President Sales for Barco Healthcare in North America. “Breast tomosynthesis is presenting significant opportunities for enhancing not only diagnostic accuracy, but workflow efficiency in today’s hospitals – a growing concern for every healthcare organization.”
