ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has launched Safety Essentials, an online educational series that provides health care professionals with guidance to create a culture of safety in the workplace.

Safety Essentials offers an in-depth overview of the fundamentals of patient and workplace safety in health care settings. Featuring 10-modules, the series highlights safety best practices in medical environments and prepares health care professionals to develop  a secure environment for patients.

Series courses focus on a number of safety topics including workplace safety, risk management, patient transfer and transport, fall prevention, infection control, medication safety and radiation protection. It also highlights patient care protocols and steps to prevent medical errors as outlined in The Joint Commission performance requirements.

“Health care departments continuously work to improve safety protocols for patients and health care providers, yet fundamental safety measures remain incredibly important,” said ASRT Director of Online Education Craig St. George, B.S., R.T.(R)(VI). “The Safety Essentials series offers step-by-step guidance to establish basic and advanced safety protocols, and it includes a free hand washing and hygiene PDF poster, a tool that reminds health care professionals how simple measures can protect patients and themselves.”

Modules are approved for Category A continuing education credit and accepted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Radiologic technologists who successfully complete all the modules will earn 14 CE credits and receive a document from ASRT recognizing their achievement.

The ASRT also offers a non-CE credit institutional version for administrators, managers and educators. The institutional version is licensed for unlimited use and contains all 10 modules, transcripts, an image library and test banks for each module.
