RSNA 2015 checklist: 5 sessions to let radiology ‘in’ on informatics
In 2016 and beyond, radiologists will need to tap imaging informatics in constantly expanding ways if they are to show their chops to referrers, patients and—not least—payers on diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency and report usability.
Here’s a sampling of sessions at RSNA aimed at keeping attendees up to date on informatics.
Leveraging Your Data: Informatics Approaches and Solutions to Improve Imaging Care Delivery

Session speakers will “identify unmet needs of current and future practices with regards to emerging and existing informatics tools, apply existing and emerging informatics applications to improve report generation, and demonstrate an understanding of how best to achieve consistency of radiologists’ recommendations,” according to the conference program.
Awareness to Accountability: Coping with the Mandates for Documenting Higher-Value Care

Allen Bibb Jr., MD, chair of ACR’s board of chancellors, will lay out ways to document the delivery of higher value care through metrics development, policymaker engagement and data collection/registry development for reporting quality data to certification bodies.
Practical Approach to Understanding the Basic Foundations of Imaging Informatics: A Beginner's Primer

Attendees will gain a better understanding of such aspects of informatics as the interrelatedness of its alphabet soup—DICOM, PACS, HL7, LAN, RIS—and how informatics affects workflow in a typical radiology exam.
Use Your Data to Reduce Costs and Demonstrate Your Value to the Hospital

Woojin Kim, MD, co-founder of Montage Healthcare Solutions, will cover the role of business intelligence (BI) tools in providing value-based care, including how best to implement a BI system and avoid common mistakes.
A Patient’s Journey through Imaging Informatics
Wednesday 4:30-6 p.m. | Location: S501ABC
Marc Kohli, MD, director of clinical informatics in radiology and biomedical imaging at UC-San Francisco, will outline and illustrate how RIS, PACS and voice-recognition systems and interact as a patient moves through the radiology department.
