Search starts soon for 2017 radiology-journalism fellow
Junior radiologists interested in branching out from clinical practice and into academic endeavors, take notice: An opportunity is open to learn medical publishing and continuing medical education by working closely with the editors of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
The chance comes in the form of the 2017 Melvin M. Figley Fellowship in Radiology Journalism. This engagement is awarded to one recipient each year by the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) and co-administered with the journal.
In the September edition of AJR, 2016 recipient Brett Carter, MD, of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center tells why he applied.
“Before the Figley Fellowship, my experience with AJR and other medical journals had primarily been related to publishing and my service as a reviewer, and I desired to learn more about the nonclinical aspects of radiology journalism, including methods of journal construction and organization, particularly during this time of transition to online and electronic formats,” Carter writes. “Specifically, I wanted to experience the entire process of manuscript management, from initial submission to section editor assignment and subsequent peer review, as well as other aspects such as copyediting and layout for manuscripts that are ultimately accepted for publication in the journal.”
Applications for the 2017 fellowship are due Oct. 10.
