Radiology paged to the news studio
Earlier this week the NBC affiliate in Green Bay chose to tell its viewers about what it is that radiologists do, airing a segment with a local rad who gives a two-minute rundown.
“We’re pretty central to healthcare these days,” Karanjot Sundlass, MD, tells reporter/anchor Cassandra Duvall. “We supervise the medical imaging that the technologists perform, we advise the physicians who are ordering them on what’s the most effective exam, and then we interpret those images, coming up with a diagnosis in most cases to help the physician treat the patient.”
The traditional role of the radiologist “has been behind the scenes, as a consultant,” says Sundlass. And now “we’re getting more involved in direct patient care.”
