Combination of AI, 3D printing software produces detailed organ models
Harvard Medical School researchers in collaboration with bioprinting firm Aether recently introduced a 3D printing software that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to reproduce medical images of organs as 3D models.
According to an April 10 press release, the Automatic Segmentation and Reconstruction (ASAR) medical imaging software uses deep learning models and image processing to produce CT scans without calibration, additional editing tools or human intervention.
"The low cost and ease of use of Aether's AI-powered 3D bioprinting platform will enable hospitals to have on-site organ fabrication systems to create exact replicas of patient anatomy with push-button simplicity," according to the press release. "This may decrease surgical errors, provide peace of mind for the patient, and benefit the reputation of the institution."
Additionally, Aether is collaborating with lead researcher Hae Lin Jang, PhD, from Harvard Medical School, to generate an integrated organ 3D model printing platform.
