State Farm accuses Detroit attorney of secret financial ties to MRI center
Detroit attorney Mike Morse has been accused by State Farm Insurance of having an undisclosed financial relationship with Horizon Imaging, a Michigan-based MRI provider that accepted referrals from Morse's law firm.
Allegations against Morse were made last week from claims supported by documents and emails obtained by State Farm, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.
"State Farm contends that Morse and his then-brother-in-law were either partners in the MRI center, or the brother-in-law acted as a 'straw owner' for Morse, or the center had an 'illegal kickback' arrangement that funneled money to Morse in exchange for him referring auto accident clients," according to a May 23 article.
"In its lawsuit, State Farm says that Horizon provided 'fraudulent MRIs' to 84 of the State Farm insureds at issue in its broader claims against the alleged no-fault mills. At least 65 of those individuals were also clients of Morse's firm," according to the Free Press.
However, an attorney for Morse, from I. W. Winsten of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz & Cohn, said allegations made by the insurance company and others—including an imprisoned doctor who claimed in the summer of 2017 that Morse pressured him to alter MRI images for financial gain—are false.
