Cerner sees uptick for Q1
Healthcare information service provider Cerner has reported that its 2009 first quarter profit rose from the prior year on higher revenues, reflecting a strong performance from its support, maintenance and services business.
Cerner's first quarter net income increased to $40.83 million, comapred with $36.82 million in the same quarter a year ago. The Kansas City, Mo.-based company booked first quarter revenues of $392.32 million, compared with $384.77 million in the same period last year.
However, Cerner said its system sales dropped to $100.19 million from $116.23 million from the year-ago quarter. To counteract those losses, Cerner's support, maintenance and services surged to $283.83 million from $259.79 million in the prior-year quarter. Also, operating earnings increased to $61.98 million from $263.93 million in the prior-year quarter.
