PerkinElmer posts lower income in FY09, despite increase in Q4

PerkinElmer's net income dipped in the 2009 fiscal year, despite posting gains in the fourth quarter, which ended Jan. 3, 2010.

The Waltham, Mass.-based medical device manufacturer posted $39.95 million in net income for the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with $30.7 million in the 2008 fourth quarter. However, its 2009 yearly income was $85.6 million, down from the $126.4 million reported in the 2008 fiscal year.

In contrast to its net income, 2009 fourth quarter revenues—$498.3 million— were slightly down from the $499.9 million posted in the year-ago quarter, according to PerkinElmer. In the 2009 fiscal year, the company recorded $1.8 billion in revenue, compared with $1.96 billion in the previous year.

For the full year 2010, the company forecasted a “low- to mid-single digit increase in organic revenue relative to 2009.”
