MedSolutions introduces cardiac imaging management

MedSolutions introduced its cardiac imaging management product, Outcomes-Focused Cardiac Imaging, last month at AHIP 2007 in Las Vegas. The product brings new perspectives to managing diagnostic cardiac imaging, promoting the delivery of appropriate tests through qualified providers and reducing costs.

“Cardiovascular imaging now represents about one-third of all noninvasive diagnostic imaging, and is growing more rapidly than other types of imaging,” says Gregg P. Allen, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer of MedSolutions. “Multiple factors are driving this expenditure, creating a perfect storm in the utilization and overall costs of these studies.”

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.

The newly cleared offering, AutoChamber, was designed with opportunistic screening in mind. It can evaluate many different kinds of CT images, including those originally gathered to screen patients for lung cancer.
