CT scans reveal mummies sex, age at death

A few months after x-rays were discovered in 1895, German physicist Walter Koenig, put the latest technology to the test and scanned 14 objects, one of which was the mummified remains of an ancient Egyptian child.

As technology advanced, radiographic images were able to reveal health issues and diseases in mummies.

However, it was not until recently that the same mummy Koenig examined was put through a CT scan. The modern imaging technique, focused on the subject's teeth, revealed the mummy was a boy between 4 to 5 years old when he died.
