Premier signs agreements with Philips, Siemens, Elekta

Premier Purchasing Partners LLP, the group purchasing organization of Premier Inc., has awarded three-year agreements to Philips Medical Systems and Siemens Medical Solutions for full-line imaging modalities and related services.

Effective Sept 1, 2004, through August 31, 2007, Premier said the estimated sales volume for all product categories should approach $2 billion over the three-year period of the contract.

According to Premier, Philips was awarded a contract for a full line of imaging and radiology products and services including CT, MRI, nuclear medicine imaging, positron emission tomography (PET), as well as radiography, ultrasound and cardiac imaging technology.

Siemens' contract includes MRI, mammography, CT, nuclear medicine, PET, ultrasound, radiography and cardiovascular equipment.

In related news, Premier also announced this week that it has entered into a three-year contract with Elekta for radiation oncology technology for its member hospital and clinic groups. The contract with Elekta also goes into effect Sept. 1, 2004.

The contract encompasses Elekta's line of linear accelerators with IMRT, x-ray volume imaging systems and exclusive Elekta accessories and options. Elekta's most recently announced products for image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) are a major part of the agreement.
