RSNA 2016: 3 can’t-miss presentations about leadership in radiology
RSNA 2016 is just a few short weeks away! As always, the Radiological Society of North America has gone all out this year, offering attendees in Chicago hundreds of fascinating presentations that cover a wide range of topics.
One of the things I’m looking forward to the most is the numerous sessions about leadership in radiology. This is a complex industry, full of evolving technologies and policies that seem to change almost every year; where would it be without its leaders?
RSNA 2016 will feature more than 20 sessions about leadership and management. These are three that caught my attention.
1. Leadership: How Can We Teach It and Promote It?
(Tuesday, 8:30-10 a.m., RC302C)
Moderated by Valerie P. Jackson, MD, this session will examine the importance of leadership education for residents, trainees, and young faculty members. Jackson and the other presenters will show why that education is so vital from the very beginning of a radiologist’s career.
2. Women in Leadership
(Wednesday, 8:30-10 a.m., RC516)
Four different speakers will be presenting during this session, which is moderated by Margaret M. Szabunio, MD. The difficult transition from being a trainee to an attending will be discussed, including a look at how this process can be different for women compared to men. In addition, Rebecca J. Leddy, MD, is scheduled to examine the various challenges women often face when working toward advancing in their careers.
3. Mentoring Future Leaders
(Thursday, 4:30-6 p.m., RC732)
Vijay M. Rao, MD, is scheduled to discuss how the important mentor-mentee relationship is evolving as a result of “the current environment of multigenerational workforce and diversity.” Workplaces have changed throughout healthcare with four different generations all working together at the same time—how is that impacting radiologists in regards to finding a mentor or being one yourself?
Don’t forget to consider these sessions when determining your plan of attack for RSNA later this month. See you there!
