While political landscape grows nastier, MITA honors impactful politicians

As we continue to move closer to the 2016 presidential election, it seems like opponents of both parties are getting meaner and nastier. No matter how hard you try, it’s hard to go anywhere or talk to anyone without getting sucked into some sort of political debate.

With that hate-filled climate in mind, I wanted to applaud the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) for handing out several “2016 Innovation Awards” this summer to politicians who have made a positive impact on the medical imaging industry.

In a recent release praising Congressman Todd Young from Indiana, for instance, MITA Board Chairman Nelson Mendes called Young “a champion of medical imaging technologies that save millions of lives each year” and said his support helped thousands of Americans. Similar releases have been issued over the last few months.

I’m normally not one to suggest everyone sit around the campfire and sing “Kumbaya,” but after months of hearing Trump this! and Clinton that! over and over, it’s nice to see something that goes in the opposite direction, isn’t it?

When politicians make decisions that help improve the quality of care for patients throughout the country, they do deserve a little recognition. And MITA deserves recognition as well—while social media, television and radio stations are all infested with political theater for the next few months, at least it is getting a little positivity out there.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, there’s a neighbor across the street who is voting for a different party than I am, so I need to yell at him a bit …
