Siemens breaks ground at new $60M North Carolina training, service facility

Siemens Healthcare broke ground Tuesday on a new training and service facility at its location in Cary, N.C.

The new facility, initially announced in March, is a planned 143,000-square-foot, six-story office building on the Cary campus. Siemens said it is scheduled to open in early 2010, and the new facility will house more than 500 technical and administrative support personnel, including a 600-car parking deck and a separate one-floor cafeteria.

An existing structure located at Gregson Drive and MacAlyson Court will be demolished at a yet-to-be determined date.

Siemens said that the project will include a $57 million investment, as well as the addition of approximately 300 jobs over the next five years, in anticipation of the need for training and technical support for Siemens’ medical technologies. Currently, Siemens employs nearly 700 people at its Cary operations.

The company said that the North Carolina Department of Commerce has estimated that over the next 10 years, the project will:

• Generate a cumulative gross product value of $594 million;
• Produce a cumulative net state revenue impact of about $16.7 million; and
• Contribute up to $1.87 million to the state’s Industrial Development Fund for infrastructure improvements in economically distressed areas of North Carolina.
