Accelarad’s Cloud-based Medical Imaging Helps Baptist Health Eliminate 85 Percent of Discs

August 21, 2013 (MONTGOMERY, Ala.)Accelarad, a leading cloud-based medical image exchange solution, congratulates Baptist Health on eliminating 85 percent of CDs by storing and sharing medical images in real-time through Accelarad’s secure cloud platform. Central Alabama’s healthcare leader and one of only five Level II trauma facilities in the state, Baptist Health has been an Accelarad customer since March 2013.

Accelarad’s platform allows physicians and patients to access medical images in real-time from any Internet-connected computer or mobile device – similar to images uploaded to a social network. Prior to implementing Accelarad, Baptist Health manually stored and shared medical images on CD’s.  Oftentimes, these CD’s were physically transported from referring hospitals hundreds of miles away, delaying patient care.  Moreover, 20 to 30 percent of these CD’s contained bad files, forcing patients to be rescanned.

“Accelarad has dramatically improved our continuity of patient services, particularly in trauma cases,” said Dr. Julio Rios, emergency room physician at Baptist Health. “In the ER, we now have a patient’s medical images before he/she arrives at our facility, which helps the throughput of patient care.  We can have the patient’s room, the operating room and our medical staff fully prepared to treat the patient before we’ve even seen the individual, which makes a life-saving difference.”

As other central Alabama healthcare facilities and physicians learned of Baptist Health’s partnership with Accelarad, they quickly began requesting access to the image-sharing platform.  Today, Baptist Health is connected with 15 other regional providers, including Children’s Hospital of Alabama, Jackson Hospital and Vaughan Regional Medical Center.  Now these hospitals and physicians can instantly access medical images to facilitate trauma transfers, specialty consults and patient image requests.

"We’re pleased to see that Baptist Health is quickly experiencing positive results from our cloud-based medical image-sharing network," said Willie Tillery, co-founder and CEO of Accelarad.  "Our technology has a record of helping save lives by increasing the speed at which healthcare professionals can share images, which is particularly important for trauma centers like Baptist Health where physicians are routinely faced with making quick, critical decisions about patient care."
