Sectra, an international medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company, will provide its cloud-based enterprise imaging service to healthcare professionals and radiology teams linked to the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland. According to an announcement, the agreement covers 14 territories and is designed to support healthcare professionals with the reading, sharing, and storage of over 5 million annual radiology scans throughout the country.
The implementation of Sectra's service means migrating over 55 million radiology studies to its cloud platform, where the company is responsible for providing ongoing support and ensuring the platform scales based on the needs of the Scotland NHS over time.
"Our new partnership with Sectra will provide Scotland's NHS radiology teams with an enterprise imaging service that will support our professionals as they deliver efficient and effective diagnoses for patients,” Mary Morgan, chief executive of NHS Scotland said in a statement. “The service creates additional potential to support the direction set out in the new Scotland Radiology Model and opens up further possibilities around enhanced cross-site working."
Sectra is set to replace the existing contract with Scotland's current supplier by 2026. The contract spans an initial 10-year term with two optional extension periods.
The amount of the contract was not disclosed. Health Imaging has reached out to Sectra seeking financial details.
