Organizations demand increased security, flexibility with PACS
Healthcare is continually evolving toward a more collaborative, patient-centered experience which requires digital scans and electronic health records be available quickly.
To that end, care organizations are demanding more secure picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) with enhanced interoperability capabilities, according to an HIT Infrastructure report.
“Today's move toward collaborative care means more physicians need to have access to these images and image data, like radiology reports,” said researchers with HIT consulting firm IDC Research, in the story. “Providers making care management decisions want longitudinal records that provide a 360-degree patient view.”
Large government organizations, such as the Veterans Health Administration, have contracted with Change Healthcare to implement its Digital Imaging Network PACS. The goal is to improve collaboration between various departments while lowering costs.
