Prominent French university to improve anatomy teaching using virtual medical technology from Sectra
Medical imaging IT company Sectra (STO: SECT B) has signed a contract to deliver its Sectra Visualization Table to Université Claude Bernard in Lyon. This makes Claude Bernard the first French university to improve its medical education using Sectra’s visualization table.
“Medical education in France is at the forefront of its field in Europe and Université Claude Bernard will serve as an excellent reference both in France and in our efforts to establish a leading position in visualization in medical training,” says Lars Wettergren Vice President, Global Partner Sales at Sectra’s medical operations.
Lyon Université Claude Bernard is a leading center of education in France and has a total of nearly 35, 000 students of 125 nationalities. The university includes a health science faculty that covers the full spectrum of medical professions (doctors of medicine, pharmacists, dentists, etc) and paramedical professions (audioprosthesists, ergotherapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, orthoptists, physiotherapists specialized in psychomotor integration).
“We regard the Sectra Visualization Table as offering major potential to take medical education to a whole new level through the use of real cases, allowing contextualized teaching and learning,” says Dr. Eric J. Voiglio. He continues:”The Sectra Visualization Table will primary be used to teach students in anatomy and marks the beginning of change in medical education.”
About Sectra Visualization Table
The Sectra Visualization Table is a large, multi-touch medical display with software that facilitates interaction with 3D images of the human body created by modern computer tomography or magnetic resonance cameras. Students are able to intuitively zoom in, rotate or cut into the visualized body without using a scalpel or destroying the subject. This means that the same image can be used repeatedly, and the students are able to study the impact of various illnesses on the anatomy in a manner that was not possible in teaching in the past. A unique function of the visualization table is that each university can download and create its own teaching files from its own clinical practices as well as using the preloaded collection of demonstration cases that comes with the table.
